Cruise 2000-6

Peter Santschi and Dr. Laodong Guo
July 2000. These pictures were taken during a 10-day cruise in the Gulf of Mexico; where we deployed sediment traps, cast CTDs and MIPS (Multiple In-situ Pumping System). At each of the seven sampling stations, the LOER research group (Dr. Guo, Dr. Hung, K. Warnken, K. Schwehr, N. Alvarado Quiroz with the assistance of J. Haye, C. Noll, C. Schmidt, J. Vidas and J. Rank) ultra-filtered and conducted on-board laboratory experiments on water samples from various depths. Water samples were also measured for routine parameters such as temperature, salinity, and nutrients, and later measured for trace metal concentration. The research group from Texas A&M University-College Station (Dr. Pickney and B. Lumsden) measured plankton and chlorophyll a levels during the cruise. Finally, our lone representative from Oregon State University (Dr. Walsh) conducted the deployments and retrievals of the sediment trap.
