Statement of Purpose involving Analytical and Field Services
The main purpose for the
LOER laboratory is to provide state-of-the-art analytical facilities for
research purposes. However, we can provide some limited analytical
services to the public and private community. What we offer is
high quality analytical and field capabilities which are typically not
offerred through commercial analytical laboratories. Our services are not
intended to be competitive with commerical analytical laboratories who
do a high volume of business. We specalize in collection and analysis
of trace elements at ultra-low levels in environmental samples using "clean"
techniques.
Analytical and Research Capabilities
|
Ultra-clean sampling and analysis for trace elements in natural waters, sediments, and biological tissues
|
Biogeochemical cycling of trace elements, metalloids, radionuclides, and dissolved organic carbon in natural waters
|
Bioaccumulation and food chain transfer of potentially toxic elements
|
Atmospheric transport processes and fluxes of trace elements and radionuclides into coastal waters
|
Sediment-water exchange process
|
Particle dynamics in water and in sediments; Sediment transport and erosion processes
|
Geochronology of sediments, carbonate, and other deposits
|
Development of analytical techniques for chemical and phase speciation of trace elements and metalloids in natural waters |
Instrumentation and Equipment
The LOER contains state-of-the-art
analytical instrumentation for determination of major, minor, and trace
constituents and radionuclides in environmental samples. Click
here for a list of available instrumentation and facilities.
Price Schedule for Field and Analytical Services
Following this page are guides for pricing to analytical and field services provided by the LOER. To obtain firm prices all work must first be discussed with a LOER principal investigator. (See home page for contacts).

Turn Around Time
The LOER is not a high volume
analytical consulting laboratory. We principally specialize in high
quality analytical and field work. We are not organized to provide
rush analytical services. Our normal turn around time for analytical
services is typically 30-45 days. Special arrangements must be made
for faster services and a surcharge will be applied.
Payment Terms
Normal payment period is
net 30 days after receipt of invoice.
Confidentiality
Because the LOER is part
of the Texas A & M University System, we consider all data generated
by the Laboratory to be open, non-confidential, and available for publication
in scientific reports by LOER laboratory participants.
QA/QC
We follow state-of-the-art
research level protocols in all our field and analytical work. This
includes:
|
Modern analytical instrumentation and class-100 clean laboratory facilities and practices
|
Careful checking of all sampling equipment and laboratory ware for low blanks
|
Participation in interlaboratory analytical verification studies
|
Verification of accuracy of results with standard reference materials
|
Determination of reproducibility with replicate determinations (at roughly the 10% level)
|
Analysis of spiked samples
|
Sample handling and analysis using ultra-clean procedures and practices. |
Reporting
Includes simple spreadsheet style tabulation report of results, blanks, and SRM values (if requested).
